Will baking soda work for heartburn or not? Yeah it will but only for a very short time. In response to alkaline environment created by baking soda your stomach will try to produce more acid which will then cause even more pain.

So use it only when it really hurts badly. Otherwise try some warm water to dilute acid. It is a longer term solution.
